CELBAN is an assessment tool developed by the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (CCLB) in consultation with internationally educated nurses (IENs) and members of the nursing community from regulatory bodies, associations and nursing bridging programs. It was designed to assess the English language proficiency of IENs who are applying for licensure in the nursing profession in Canada.
In its tenth year, CELBAN is recognized as proof of English language ability by all Canadian nursing regulatory bodies, and is the preferred option for many IENs. It evaluates proficiency in all four skill areas – speaking, listening, writing and reading. The test tasks are all set in the context of nursing.
Operating within Touchstone Institute, The CELBAN Centre is responsible for the administration of test sessions across Canada and the management of test results and test content. For more information about The CELBAN Centre, please visit our website.
